COME ON ORANGE, GIVE US A SMILE! June 27th, 2007

Our lovely We Love Your Operator films are finally here! See London dissolve in a 60s-inspired, sun-drenched haze as our Rebel hippies make sweet love (not literally) to mobile phone operators across town. See 3 act bemused! See The Carphone Warehouse look nonplussed! And see misery-guts Orange not showing us any love at all! Come on Orange. Give us a smile!

Watch them all at Youtube.com.

sponsorship, house-painting and more… June 25th, 2007

So, how do you get the Rebtel message of peace and love across the country to as many people as possible, in a the shortest amount of time, and with the lowest cost possible? Be creative, imaginative – and don’t forget to actually execute on the idea…

I was speaking with Darren when the idea of having a solid and attractive billboard for Rebtel came up. That billboard was Darren’s house! Before undertaking the effort, Darren was courteous enough to check with his neighbors to ensure that they were supportive. Within a week, the garage was painted and the Rebtel signs started showing up. A few days later, CNBC, Business Week, and other media started writing about it and turning up with their camera crews.

As soon as the CNBC piece aired, I received no less than 20 emails from other interested individuals ranging from painting their buildings to sponsoring the launch of their new sites. I wish everyone all the best, but for now we’ll keep Darren’s house as the model home.

As for Darren, he is a convert to Rebtel and is enjoying the service. And, in every story, there is hero. In this case, kudos goes to Darren’s wife for being such a sport about this project. Hopefully, Darren bought her the gift that she well deserves.

Further information

Read more about Darren’s house in the Chicago Tribune, Business Week and CNBC. You can also watch the clip that aired on CNBC last week.

spreading the love in hyde park… June 25th, 2007

On Saturday, Flic and the Rebtel Hippies were spreading the Midsommar love in Hyde Park, as thousands of Swedes gathered to celebrate the solstice in typical Swedish style. Here’s her field report…

Flic @ Swedish Midsommar festival

“Never to be deterred by a spot of torrential rain, the Swedes were out in force in Hyde Park this Saturday. Though feeling a little silly in our full-on hippy gear as we started to do the rounds – tentatively waving leaflets and promises of cheap calls to Sweden at everyone in sight – it soon became clear that we fitted in quite well. Numerous offers of beer, cider, fish and doughnuts later we’d exhausted our stacks of blindingly colourful leaflets and made quite a few converts. All in all a good day, though I never did get to dance round the maypole…

Flic xx”

Watch out for the Rebtel Hippies around Liverpool St and Canary Wharf later this week. They’ll also be making their way to Trafalgar Square on Friday afternoon for the Canada Day celebrations, so keep your eyes peeled!

swedish midsummer madness! June 21st, 2007

midsommar

It’s all going quiet over in Stockholm today as they prepare for their Midsummer celebrations. Summer’s short over there, so they like to make the most of it with a bunch of MASSIVE PARTIES. There are also some pretty wacky traditions, as magic is believed to be the strongest at this time of year. Young ladies who place seven varieties of flower under their pillows on Midsummer’s Eve are said to dream of their future husband; a flask of dew collected at Midsummer can cure illnesses; herbs are said to be more potent, couples more fertile, and people decorate their houses with greenery to bring good luck.

More Stockholm office

As they’re not around, let’s take this opportunity to take a sneak peek at their swanky offices. As you can see it’s much bigger than the London office. You can’t see it properly but at the end of the office there’s a meeting room with glass walls and a view overlooking the Skärgårdshavet (the Archipelago Sea). This meeting room is adorned with cowhide rugs and Mies van der Rohe Barcelona chairs, and is very fancy and nice.

June 2007

And here we have the infamous naked farmer calendar, which hides in the girls’ loos of the Stockholm office. It’s rumoured that May 2007 bears a striking resemblance to a certain gym-loving member of our Development team. Rebtel’s official line on this? “No comment”!

meet the work experience boys June 14th, 2007

Bjorn and Linus

Say hi to Linus (left) and Bjorn (right), our new interns. They’ll be working at Rebtel in our Stockholm offices, doing viral marketing and other top-secret entrepreneurial type activities.

They’re running a Facebook group for Rebtel-related fun and discussion, including a few candid shots of the Stockholm crew hard at work, so if you’re on Facebook you should take a look. They’ve also started a blog to document their summer – check it out.

All together now: Hello Bjorn and Linus!

skype to go vs. rebtel, plus – moneysaving expert loves us! June 13th, 2007

Looks like Skype have started their own version of Rebtel. Aw!!! So, we all gathered round to take a little look. We’ve spent quite a while trying to come up with a nice way of saying this, but basically, the consensus was:

Skype To Go = weak
Rebtel = awesome

Ok, obviously, we would say that. Let us explain.

  • With Skype you only get one ‘To Go’ number. You can change the international number you assign to the number only once a week. In other words, you can only call one friend abroad per week.
  • With Rebtel? You get a minimum of 20 international numbers. In some cities you get 100. Isn’t choice great?
  • Want to call a friend? With Skype you’ll need to go back to your Pro page when you’re signed in. It’s a bit of a hassle.
  • With Rebtel? Just use your phone’s address book, same as normal.

There are a few other reasons why we kick Skype’s ass at this international mobile-to-mobile calling thing (you can call more countries, for starters!) We’re a lot smaller than them, but we’re feisty.

Oh and! Did we mention the whole free thing?

No wonder Martin Moneysaver is bigging us up too!

saying hi June 12th, 2007

me

Alright blogsters. My name is Anne-Marie. I work at Rebtel. I write things for them. I’m going to be writing things on here too.

Some of those things will be interesting. Some of those things will be informative. Occasionally, they may even be both at once.

I’ll let you know when that’s going to be.

Until then, my hearties

Rebtel’s new summer look June 11th, 2007

Rebtel loves your operator

Hello there. We’ve redesigned our website. Have a look.

Like it? There are hippies. With mobiles. And it’s pink. And blue. Yummy.

But redesigning a website is like putting on a new outfit. It’s exciting and fun, but it’s even better if you’ve been down the gym a bit and toned up what’s underneath as well.

And that’s what we’ve done. We’ve taken our prices to a few aerobics classes and we’ve got them to pump some iron. And now they’re looking kind of…buff.

Ogle this:

  • Welcome Minutes
Every new user gets a whopping ten minutes to try the service out. We’re calling them ‘Welcome minutes’. If you get inclusive minutes with your mobile phone contract, that means you’re getting a 10 minute international call for free. Which is pretty sweet.
  • Thank You Minutes
Also, the first time you add credit to your account you’ll get another 10 minutes talktime, as a thank you bonus.
  • Spread the love
Already a member? There’s free talktime for you too. Let’s assume you like the service. You’ll want your friends to try it, right? Spread the love and all that. So we’ve created a handy tool for you to email a bunch of your contacts about Rebtel, and for every friend who clicks the link in the mail, signs up and make a call with Rebtel, you get five minutes talktime for free.

So remember: inclusive minutes = international calls with Rebtel. Visit www.rebtel.com to see the new look website and blag your bonus minutes today!
