Tech Over Tyranny!
On the 12th of June, when the presidential elections in Iran took place, the people of the Islamic republic went out of their homes to cast their votes with hopes of seeing them amount to a democratically elected president of their country. Today, 10 days later, after seeing serious evidence of discrepancies surface, the entire country is in despair, people are in disbelief and no one can tell with absolute certainty what the future holds in store for the brave men and women of Iran taking a stand against tyranny, fraud and lies for the benefit of living freely under democratic and honest conditions.
Due to these recent developments, we announced earlier today that we have made the decision to give away a total of a quarter of a million free minutes to Iran. When Rebtel was founded in 2006, it was built with the vision of shrinking the world, making it a friendlier place, and to bring people from all over the world closer together by making all phone calls local. 3 years later we still stay true to that vision by doing what we believe should be expected of us not only as a company, but also as fellow human beings.
This opportunity to call Iran for no cost is available for all existing users as well as new users. No strings attached.
As a fair use policy, each and everyone that decides to redeem the voucher code will receive 15 minutes of free calls each. New users that are currently not Rebtel users will in addition also receive the usual 5 Welcome Minutes. Once redeemed, the 15 minutes to Iran will be valid for 14 days.
The voucher code will be redeemable starting today, Monday the 22nd of June, and will expire on Monday next week, 29th of June.
If you would like to help us spread the message to raise awareness and make sure as many people as possible get the chance make use of these minutes, please retweet this post with the hashtag #iranelection by clicking the button at the top of this post.

As an Iranian, I would like to thank you so much for your timely action. At the moment, all sort of communication in Iran, such as cell phones, text messaging, satellite channels, and non-governmental news websites are being filtered in Iran which is against the freedom of speech as a basic human right. Your action is an important help to people of Iran. Thanks again and wish you all success in Rebtel.

Thank you for your support and your kindness regarding Iranian situations. I would never forget your support, I have been useing your system for last 2 yrs and have been very happy with it and have been recommended to all my friends.
My wish is to kick Islam out of Iran and planet of earth for ever and never let them come back to Iran or this planet, even thought I have been born Muslim,
of course it wasn’t my chose neither any other Iranian after the Arabs attack my beautiful country last 1400 yrs ago and since then we have been going backward.
Actually we should love Komine and Ahmaghi nejad for waking up the whole world to know what kind of creature they are. and we as a human should clean this planet from this creatures.
I am not Muslim, I am human and love to die as human

I detest the deplorable REBTEL move and its absurd statement regarding my Iran’s internal affairs .
although i fully support the democracy in Iran i condemn rebtel or any other non-Iranian organizations meddling with my country internal affairs .
as a sign of protest i withdraw my membership from rebtel forever .

@Hamed I, and the rest of us here at Rebtel, fully respect you standpoint in this matter. Although, like I explained in the blog post above, we feel like it’s our obligation as fellow human beings, Iranian or not, to do what we can to help out.

I dont understand why Rebtel cares if the president of Iran is democratically elected or not. If you really need to do something for the people of Iran, just provide the minutes since there is a lot of turmoil there and not for a political reason that you support.

Hello guys,
Any gesture of support for the Iranian people (or any other people who needs it) goes a long way. Through actions like these people of the world would certainly become closer. I do not understand why some people left comments in which they referred to this offer by REBTEL as interference in Iran’s internal affairs. Nobody is forcing you to take offer up. This is meant for those who want to use it.
Thank god a great majority of Iranians are not like those idiots Ali and Hamed (see comments above).
Well done Rebtel, keep up the good work and we wish you all the success in the world.

I think Rebtel made a monumental mistake by introducing business in politics!! I am an afro-european customer of Rebtel more than a year ago. I am not muslim but I respect all the iranian people to resolve their indoor problems themselfs. I think I will never call through rebtel any more. According to this strategy, you should donate billions of minutes every day of the year, cause our sad Planet is full of political tragedies or Irans.
