Easter Egg On The Rebtel Site November 21st, 2011

The other week, our Customer Team received an interesting email from one of our users that discovered something interesting on our new site. That something was a cool Easter Egg that most of us here at Rebtel HQ (with the obvious exception for our crafty Web Team) didn’t have a clue even existed.

If you’re unfamiliar with what an Easter Egg is, it’s basically a message, video, graphical tweak, sound effect or something else along those lines that can be found in an app or on a website and is triggered by a set of key commands or mouse clicks.

Check out the video to see it in action and get instructions on how to trigger it yourself.

Do you know of any cool Easter Egg on any other site?

Rebtel Proud Sponsor Of The 2011 Miss Africa Pageant November 18th, 2011

Every once in a while, we’re presented with an opportunity to in some shape or form help our users out in fun, creative ways, and when The Miss Africa USA Organization contacted us regarding possibly sponsoring their event, we thought it sounded like a pretty great idea.

The event, which took place at the Hilton Hotel Ballroom in Silver Spring, Maryland, saw more than 150 contestants that had all auditioned with the hope of being rewarded with the honor of representing their countries. At the end the first elimination round, 16 finalists made the grueling cut and saw themselves make it all the way to the finals for a shot at the coveted crown.

After the final round, which included competitive events such as public speaking, talent and fashion, 22 year old Ghyslaine Tchouaga from Cameroon ended up walking away with the crown. Ghyslaine was born in the capital city of Yaounde and immigrated with her mother and siblings to the US to pursue higher education and seek better opportunities her family.

On behalft of the entire Rebtel team we’d like to extend a huge congratulations to Ghyslaine on her victory. We wish her all the best of luck representing Africa during her reign as Miss Africa USA 2011-2012.

[Competiton] Win a Brand New iPhone 4S Courtesy of Rebtel November 15th, 2011

Are you tired of your old iPhone and have been eying that new iPhone 4S ever since it came out? We know the feeling, and we want to help out, so we figured we’d put on a competition to give a chance to win one.

The competition is open to all existing users of the Rebtel 2.0 for iPhone app and all you have to do is invite as many of your fellow iPhone friends to download the app. The winner will be determined by the highest number of friends in the contact list  with the label ‘FREE’ next to their name. The more you have by November 27th when the competition ends and the winner is announced, the higher the chance of you walking away with a new iPhone 4S (not to mention you’ll also have lots of people to call for free). For full contest rules, please click here.

Sounds awesome, how do I invite my friends to download Rebtel for iPhone?

1. Open the Rebtel app on your iPhone

2. Tap on ‘Account’

3. Tap ‘Tell Friends’ and select if you want to tell your friends about Rebtel using Facebook, Twitter, Email or a good old SMS

Good luck!

[VIDEO] Watch Rebtel CEO Andreas Talk Mobile At Last Year’s NOAH10 Conference November 9th, 2011

This year’s NOAH conference is well on its way and in full swing in London, UK. Our CEO, Andreas Bernstrom, attended last year’s event and participated in an interesting discussion on stage with Truphone co-founder, Alexander Straub.

The theme of the talk was given the witty name “Jurassic Park – Incumbents Meet Disruptors”, and was initially supposed to feature Alex and Andreas as the disruptors together with representatives from the incumbents, namely the operators. Unfortunately, and perhaps not very surprising, the opposing party, in this particular case Telenor and an undisclosed mobile internet company, failed to show up due to sickness.

Nevertheless, Alex and Andreas had a very interesting chat well worth a few minutes of your time.
